About Romi

We love matcha. That's why we set up Romi.

Because as matcha becomes more and more popular, we want people to know just how big the world of matcha is and how different one matcha can be from another - just like wine, apples or just about anything that comes from plants.

We're also dedicated to finding the highest quality and best tasting matcha there is.

Whether you're already a matcha drinker or haven't yet tried it (or maybe you have but didn't like it?), try Romi Matcha. We're sure there'll be one of ours that you love as much as we do.

Finding The Perfect Matcha For The Perfect Wave

We test and grade a lot of matcha. (Yes, a LOT.)

Because not all matcha is the same.

Most matcha in the UK is from Uji, in Japan, and it’s great. But we go ever further to bring you the very best, and scour the country far and wide. We reach out to producers we’ve discovered who create inspiring and unique blends. We visit the farms – those with a heritage, that use established techniques and whose single-origin varieties are loved by Japanese consumers.

We also like nothing more than to go off the beaten track, in quest of something really, really special – such as our matcha from Yame, with its natty nutty taste.

About The team

Why We Started Romi

Hi, I’m Ruja - and I’ve always loved matcha.

I come from a Chinese family that settled in Thailand, where I grew up surrounded by a vibrant tea culture. Later, I moved to the UK for secondary school and university. No matter where I lived, one thing stayed constant: my obsession with tea — whether it’s a beautifully whisked bowl of matcha or a strong cup of Yorkshire tea.

When I first got to the UK however, I was stunned to find how rare matcha was, even in the chain cafes. Back home in East and Southeast Asia, contemporary matcha culture was already thriving.

I'm so please to now see matcha getting more and more popular and I want to share the richness and variety of matcha loved across Asia with people in the UK and Europe.

So I started Romi, with a little part-time help from my husband (now a total matcha convert).
