Let's ask questions!

About Matcha

What is Matcha?

Matcha is finely ground powdered green tea made from specially grown leaves that are shaded before harvest to boost chlorophyll and amino acids. It’s whisked with hot water to create a vibrant, frothy drink packed with antioxidants and calm energy.

Where are our matcha from?

Our matcha is sourced from Japan’s best tea regions. Our first collection is from Yame, Fukuoka.

What is ceremonial-grade matcha?

Ceremonial-grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha, crafted for drinking pure without any additives. It’s made from the youngest, finest tea leaves, giving it a vibrant green colour, smooth texture, and rich umami taste.

How to store your matcha?

To keep your matcha vibrant and flavourful, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place away from heat, light, and moisture (to prevent oxidation). Proper storage helps maintain its colour, taste, and quality of your matcha!

Refrigerating your matcha is a great way to keep it fresh — especially before opening the airtight seal. We highly recommend storing unopened matcha in the fridge or freezer to help preserve its flavour and colour. However, once opened, matcha becomes sensitive to moisture and smells — especially in a fridge shared with food. If you will refrigerate, make sure it’s an odour-free fridge, or place the matcha tin inside a zip-lock bag or airtight container for double protection. Otherwise, a cool, dark cupboard works best to preserve its colour, aroma, and taste.

If you’ve stored your matcha in the fridge, let it return to room temperature before opening the tin. This helps prevent moisture from affecting the powder.

What does "single cultivar" mean?

Single-cultivar matcha, like our Seimei and Okumidori varieties, is made from one specific type of tea plant. This ensures a pure, distinct flavor that highlights the unique characteristics of each tea variety.

How much caffeine is in matcha?

A typical serving of 2-4g contains about 38–176 mg of caffeine per cup (1 g contains around 19–44 mg) of caffeine— similar to a cup of coffee but with a smoother, longer-lasting energy boost thanks to the presence of L-theanine.

For comparison, an espresso shot contains around 63 mg of caffeine, and a standard cup of coffee has 80–100 mg.

Is matcha safe to drink daily?

Yes! Drinking matcha daily is safe for most people. However, if you're sensitive to caffeine, we recommend starting with one cup per day to see how your body responds to the caffeine and L-theanine balance.

What makes matcha different from regular green tea?

Matcha is made from finely ground whole tea leaves, meaning you consume the entire leaf and get all of its nutrients. Unlike regular green tea, where the leaves are steeped and then discarded, matcha offers a more concentrated form of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

What gives matcha its umami taste?

The shade-growing process before harvest increases the chlorophyll and amino acid levels in tea leaves, contributing to matcha's signature umami flavour.

What makes matcha taste different from one variety to another?

Taste variations depend on factors like cultivar, region & terroir, harvest timing, and processing methods.

About Matcha Health Benefits

What are the health benefits of matcha?

Matcha is packed with powerful antioxidants like catechins (EGCG) that combat free radicals. It also contains L-theanine, which promotes calm focus, boosts metabolism, and helps sustain energy levels without jitters.

What’s the Best Way to Drink Matcha for Maximum Health Benefits?

For the most health benefits, the best way to drink matcha is pure and simple — no added milk, plant-based milk, or sugar. Keep it clean, keep it green, and enjoy the natural goodness of matcha!

Is matcha high in antioxidants?

Yes! Matcha is packed with antioxidants, especially catechins, which help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. The antioxidants in matcha can contribute to better skin health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and promote longevity.

How does matcha improve mental focus and clarity?

Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation without drowsiness. When combined with the caffeine in matcha, L-theanine creates a balanced and sustained energy boost, improving focus, concentration, and mental clarity without the jitters often associated with coffee.

Can matcha help with stress and anxiety?

Yes, the L-theanine in matcha promotes a sense of calm and relaxation. It helps reduce stress and anxiety by increasing dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain, contributing to an overall feeling of well-being.

Can matcha improve skin health?

Matcha’s antioxidant-rich profile, especially its high levels of polyphenols, helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals. These antioxidants may help prevent premature aging and promote a healthy complexion. It’s like a skincare routine in a cup!

Does matcha boost metabolism?

Yes! Matcha is known for boosting metabolism, which may aid in weight management. The natural compounds in matcha, particularly EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), help increase fat burning and improve calorie expenditure, making it a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Can You Drink Matcha During Fasting?

Yes, you can! Matcha is a great option during fasting because it’s low in calories and provides a smooth, sustained energy boost without breaking your fast. Just be sure to skip any sweeteners or milk — enjoy your matcha plain to get all the benefits while keeping your fast intact!

Is matcha vegan and gluten-free?

Yes! Matcha is naturally vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.
