Thank you Matchalicious Girl for kindly give a full review of our matcha Trio. See what @Matchalicious Girl has said about Romi Matcha :)
Romi Matcha is a UK brand bringing over new matcha varieties with a very funky, beachy, colourful vibe. They aim to make matcha fun, enjoyable and approachable, offering various blends and cultivars so everyone can find what they like best. All their matcha is sourced from Yame whose climate gives its matcha a specific nutty taste. They kindly sent me all three of their teas to try, and here is my breakdown✨
🧡Single Cultivar Okumidori
This matcha won a Gold Award in Japan and a 2-Star Great Taste Award (2024) in the UK. It is the richest in colour out of the three and has a balanced, sweet smell. Upon whisking, it smells rich and nutty. Taste-wise, it has a fresh nuttiness with hints of citrus and an umami and nutty aftertaste. It is very smooth with low astringency and low acidity.
💛Single Cultivar Seimei
This matcha is made from the rare (only 1%) cultivar Seimei. It has a lovely colour and a sweet, citrusy smell. Upon whisking, it smells earthy and nutty. Taste-wise, it is very creamy, buttery and balanced. There is an enveloping yet mellow vegetal taste and an umami aftertaste (think oolong). It has low astringency, low acidity and is very gentle.
💙Ceremonial Blend #01
This matcha won a Gold Award in Japan. It is a blend of Saemidori and Yabukita with a gorgeous colour and a sweet, nutty smell. Upon whisking, the smell is very chocolatey and nutty. Taste-wise, it has mainly hazelnut notes and some less prominent chocolate notes with an umami and sweet backbone. It has low to medium astringency and low acidity - it is still creamy but has more texture.
Overall, I have genuinely loved all three and cannot stop reaching for them!! Seimei is a very versatile, neutral matcha good for all drinkers, Okumidori is more taste-specific, and the Blend #01 is more for those who enjoy a strong nutty profile. Thank you so much @romimatcha 🫶🏼💚
